The software runs on Windows95, Windows98, Windows ME, Windows 2000, and Windows XP operating systems.  I have not tested it with Windows Vista.  This document describes the setup and use of computer, software and transceiver.

Radio Setup:

Start with the Elecraft K3 transceiver in the “Off” position.

Connect the Elecraft K3 transceiver rear panel “Stereo Line Out” port to your computer sound card “Mic” port (pink jack).

Connect the Elecraft K3 transceiver rear panel “Mono Line In” port to your computer sound card “Line Out/Speakers” port (green).

Turn the Elecraft K3 “On”.

Use the K3 “Mode” switch to set the transceiver to “CW”.

Computer Setup:

Your computer should be at least a Pentium 166 MHz in order to use this program.  These instructions work with Windows XP:

Go to “Start”, “Settings”, “Control Panel” and click on “Sounds & Audio Devices”

The “Sounds and Audio Devices Properties” window will open
In the middle of the page in the "Device volume" box, click on “Advanced”
The “Volume Control” window will open

Click on “Options”
Click on “Properties”
The “Properties” window will open

The “Recording Control” window will open

If there is not a checkmark in the box “Mic”, click on the box to insert the needed checkmark.  If there is a checkmark in the box, continue as follows.  If there is a checkmark in the box, continue as follows.

You must select a working output port for the computer’s output CW transmission to occur.  The software defaults to output port “None” until you select the port you wish to use.  You can use any of eight serial ports or one of two printer ports to communicate between the computer and transceiver.  My setup uses  a virtual computer serial port 7 for output.

The “Receive Text Window” is the second window from the top.  This window displays decoded CW signals if the “Text” mode of operation is selected.  This selection “Text” is found in the “Op Modes” section of the main screen.

The “Transmit Text Window” is the third window from the top.  This window displays text that is being transmitted.

Many of the keys displayed on the screen are self explanatory.

In order to be able to Transmit CW, you must click on the “Xmit Enable” box located near the bottom right of the main screen.

The “Xmit Speed” control slider sets the code speed from 5 to 40 wpm.

There are ten (10) macro (memory) keys located below the “Transmit Text Window”.  You can create and retain specific text using these macro keys.

If you have the “XMIT” button turned on, you can use the Function Keys (F1 to F10) to transmit the text you store in the M1 to M10 memory locations

Another method is to click on the “RECALL” button and then a memory key and the text associated with that memory key will be displayed in the “Transmit Text Window”.  Click on the “SEND” button and the displayed text will be transmitted.

Pressing the “Esc” key will terminate any transmission and you will be placed in the receive mode.

You can select “IMM” for text to be sent as typed character by character or “SCN” and text will be sent all at one time.  These keys are located to the right of the Memory keys.
